Our Approach
Red Tusker is a small firm of builders run by Tim Luxton, who puts communication with his clients at the heart of his operations. Building work can be messy, occasionally problematic and it doesn't always run on time. If the client isn't kept abreast of progress or unforeseen developments, if he or she isn't advised on preferential options with cost implications, then a positive relationship can easily turn sour.
At the beginning of a job everybody is on good terms. That's the way I like to keep it. I consult and explain, assist in discussions re Planning, Building Control offer suggestions on design and lighting where appropriate at every step of the journey, so even when you're sick of the inconvenience, you'll know that we're doing the best on your behalf.
About
A small firm cannot maintain a large complement of skilled workers. So, we have a hard core of two or three, while additional skills such as Structural Engineer, Architect, plumbing, electrics, brick laying, plastering, scaffolding etc are drawn from reliable and trusted contractors who have worked with Red Tusker for a number of years.
Testimonials
People very rarely write testimonials unless you ask. Word of mouth has served me well as I have never advertised. But I did once get an unsolicited glowing testimonial from a client whose lower ground floor I converted. I'm currently building a kitchen extension for this same client. This has involved sensitive Party Wall discussions with the neighbour who is an architect and a stickler for detail and compliance. After yet another chat with the neighbour re the plans for an added roof light, my client later reported to me that the neighbour had said,
"your builder is not what I expected; he's not one of those hairy arsed builders at all!"
I'm very happy with that as a positive testimonial. Here's that unsolicited testimonial:
"... I thought you managed the project brilliantly, I really appreciated your direct, down-to-earth style and hands-on approach. I felt all the way through that you were on top of things, and most importantly you were supporting us to achieve our vision. You brought a first class team of workmen to the project, and the quality of work was excellent. All the team were a pleasure to deal with (even garrulous Steve's endless chat!), and made the process as stress-free as possible. I also really appreciated the way that you helped us to take key decisions on scope and additional bits of work that helped to produce the ideal outcome without messing up the overall schedule. The financial side, despite the last-minute quibbles, was well managed and you provided good transparency of costs and the implications of tweaks to scope. Finally I appreciated your thoroughness in closing everything off properly. Please thank all the team…"
